5  Tips for candidates when going through the interview process

    1) Make sure your CV highlights the impact you have made in your previous roles. Securing the interview can often be the trickiest part of the recruitment process. Rather than just listing the tasks you completed, and tools used. Mention the impact this had on the business to highlight your potential to employers.

    For example :

I designed and developed a plan for integration testing optimisation, and automated test resubmission, through this we achieved a 20% reduction in runtime on CI/CD pipelines.

    2) Once you have secured an interview, do your research on the company and the people interviewing you. Based on your research prepare some questions for your interview. Think about the most important things for you in a job and company and aim to find out these answers as early on in the process as possible. There is no point getting to final stage only to realise the role doesn’t tick your boxes and drop out. Use the first couple of interviews to not just showcase your skills and experience but also find out about the role, company and if you could see yourself working there.

    3) Be on time for your interview. Most interviews these days are done online, but if you are going onsite for an interview, plan to get there 30 mins before you need to be. You can always grab a coffee or sit and read through your notes, there is nothing worse than rushing to the interview and starting off flustered.

    4) If your interview is online, check you have the link for the call, and everything is set up and working a few hours before you need to join the meeting. You don’t want to be downloading the new version of Microsoft teams 2 minutes before your interview starts! Obviously sometimes things happen out of your control, just aim to let your interviewers or the recruiter know with as much notice as possible.

    5) If you are required to prepare a presentation as part of your interview, make sure it fits within the allotted time. Practise it out loud to ensure you can comfortably finish within the time frame allocated by the company and allow time for questions from the interviewers. Don’t rush it, if the interviewers would like more information on a certain topic they can use the Q+A time to delve into this.

At the end of your interview ask the interview what the next steps will be and timelines for feedback and news. This will stop you wondering when you might hear back and give you a clear idea of when to follow up if you haven’t heard anything from the company.

If you have any questions  you can always talk to the team here at KEMIO for further advice.
