My first 6 weeks at KEMIO – by Charlotte

    27th February 2024

Coming to the end of my first six weeks at KEMIO I have been reflecting on all the experiences I have already had, and all the things I have learnt. Whilst my first few weeks were a little unorthodox, working from Eugene’s house (due to an injury happening the day before I started!), it really has been an amazing few weeks and I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2024 has to offer!

To begin with it was great to get back out in the market, speaking with candidates who I hadn’t connected with in a while. This definitely reinforced the power of building relationships to me, seeing people congratulating me on my move and reaching out for catch ups, even when we hadn’t spoken in a while.

My second week we made it to the offices and had a lovely welcome lunch courtesy of Eugene (thank you!). What’s been really interesting is getting involved in other aspects of the business, like marketing, developing processes, and futures plans for the business. Definitely refreshing, feeling like you can add value to all areas of a company!

Starting a new role one of the key focuses was developing and executing my business development strategy. It was amazing to start speaking with clients, finding out the challenges they face, and the different solutions KEMIO offer to support them. It’s been nice to apply the industry knowledge I had from my previous work to the new skills and process I have learnt whilst at KEMIO, and take things to the next level.

Looking back, it has been a whirlwind, lots of milestones ticked off, including bringing on board new clients, getting my first round of interview requests, and final interviews happening. I’ve been able to upskill in lots of areas, take on new experiences and now I am excited to continue learning and growing whilst supporting businesses grow their teams across computational sciences.

The first six weeks have been full of opportunities to learn, it’s been a change going from working for a larger company to a smaller younger company. However, the chance to have more influence, and be a part of something you believe in has been amazing. It’s challenging at times, being pushed out of your comfort zone can feel uncomfortable, especially when it’s not something you’ve been encouraged to do in a while. But we all know deep down that growth happens outside the comfort zone and doing it alongside great leaders, makes it that much easier.

A massive THANK YOU to Eugene and Jade for their continued support, answering my endless questions, pushing me when needed, there is no one else I would rather be doing this with. I’m excited to see what the rest of this year has to hold.

Please reach out to Charlotte for a chat if you are in the Computational Sciences space across fields such as target discovery, genomics or diagnostics.
